You can recover ignored items easily. In the Silktide interface, click "Accessibility" on the left menu bar, and then click "Checks." This will display all issues found in the audit, allowing you to locate and address any previously ignored items.

Yes. All websites representing the university need to be updated to be fully accessible, regardless of where they are hosted.

If you cannot edit a PDF (e.g., it belongs to an external entity), we cannot verify its accessibility or accuracy automatically. If the PDF contains broken links or accessibility errors and you cannot fix it, the general recommendation is to remove it or replace it with content you control.

Captions are required for all pre-recorded (WCAG Level A) and live videos (WCAG Level AA). Standard Audio Descriptions are also required under WCAG Level AA. Media alternative transcripts are optional but strongly recommended.

Our recommendation is to not set links to open in a new tab, as it takes away the user’s choice in how they navigate the webpage and can be disorienting for screen reader users.

Our recommendation for PDF content, including degree checklists and tables, is to convert it into a webpage with live HTML content whenever possible. This ensures broader accessibility and easier maintenance.

No. Scanned images of handwritten text (especially mathematics) are not accessible because assistive technology cannot interpret the image data. To meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards, this content needs to be converted into a digital, text-based format. We recommend re-typing notes into Microsoft Word using the built-in Equation Editor.

Silktide currently has a file size limit of 50MB. We strongly recommend "pulling out" PDF content and converting it into standard HTML web pages whenever possible. The Texas Tech Accessibility Committee is acquiring PDF remediation tools and will offer specific training in Spring 2026.

We cannot comment on graduation requirement changes at this time. However, the Digital Accessibility team is actively looking into PDF remediation tools that will assist in creating more accessible PDF documents for all students and faculty.

Microsoft Forms are generally accessible out of the box. However, customization can sometimes introduce issues. Advanced training on forms will be provided in Spring 2026.

The DOJ ruling specifically covers digital accessibility. Physical, printed copies of PDFs do not fall under this digital mandate, though the digital file itself should be accessible if hosted online.

White space issues on forms are not a priority at this time and generally do not need to be addressed immediately.

Yes. We encourage all employees, including faculty, staff, and student assistants, to attend trainings. Introductory training is available now, and advanced training sessions will begin in the Spring.

Every time a new staff member takes editing control of a webpage, that person needs to go through accessibility training. We will offer training consistently throughout the year to accommodate staff changes.
