  • FROM THE PRESIDENT

Throughout its 97-year history, Texas Tech University has realized many defining moments that build on previous successes and further strengthen the foundation for future growth and accomplishments.

The many highlights of 2019 included the historic approval for the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine by the state legislature and Governor Abbott. Several years of planning and exceptional civic and philanthropic support made possible the state's first new veterinary school in more than a century.

Texas Tech also added an important designation as the Department of Education named the university a Hispanic Serving Institution. This recognition reflects the commitment of the university to provide access for all students seeking a degree in higher education and helps us support enhanced educational opportunities for a more transformative experience.

We continued to strategically grow our student body for the 11th consecutive year. Our record enrollment included all-time highs in Presidential Scholars, National Merit Finalists and graduate students. Our continued focus on student success is reflected in attainment of record retention and graduation rates and degrees awarded.

I hope you enjoy learning more about these accomplishments and others that are part of this 2019 President's Report.

Sincerely,

Lawrence Schovanec, President
