The accrediting agency oversees institutions of higher education in 11 southern states.
Texas Tech University has once again earned accreditation reaffirmation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), this time through 2035.
Accreditation for SACSCOC member schools is performed every 10 years and is standard for all member institutions. Accreditation ensures the quality and integrity of higher education institutions is maintained at the highest levels through both internal and external peer-review processes weighed against a common set of standards.
“Reaffirmation of our accreditation reflects the integrity of our academic mission and the dedication of our faculty and staff,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “It confirms that Texas Tech continues to deliver an education grounded in quality, accountability and student success. We are grateful to everyone whose efforts contributed to this important milestone.”
Texas Tech was last accredited in 2015 and was first granted accreditation in 1928. Benefits to accreditation include the reaffirmation for the public that Texas Tech is meeting nationally accepted levels of higher education quality while fulfilling its university mission. Reaffirmation involves numerous institutional reviews to provide consistent guidelines for peer reviews to ensure the quality of higher education.
To gain or maintain accreditation, institutions must comply with the standards, policies and procedures outlined by SACSCOC, which applies these requirements to all applicants, candidates or member institutions regardless of whether they are public, private, for-profit or nonprofit.
