Texas Tech Earns Seventh Great Colleges to Work For® Designation

For the fourth straight year, Texas Tech also has been recognized as an Honor Roll member for its high marks in building a strong and consistent workplace culture.

For the fifth straight year and seventh time since 2014, Texas Tech University has been recognized as one of the best destinations in the country for employees with its ranking in the 2025 Great Colleges to Work For® program, one of the largest and most respected initiatives in the country that measures workplace factors in higher education.

Additionally, Texas Tech was awarded Honor Roll status for the fourth consecutive year for being cited most often across all recognition categories.

The ranking is based on results of the Great Colleges to Work For® survey of faculty and staff at 199 institutions across the U.S., including 123 four-year colleges and universities. Texas Tech is one of 76 institutions to earn the designation and one of 42 to earn Honor Roll status.

“This recognition is significant because it reflects the culture created by our faculty and staff,” said President Lawrence Schovanec. “Their commitment to our students, to one another and to the mission of Texas Tech makes this a special place to work. Being named to the Honor Roll again affirms that what we value most, our people, remains at the heart of our success.”

The university also was recognized in 2014, 2015, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Honor roll recognition is reserved for the top 10 four-year colleges and top four two-year colleges recognized the greatest number of times in each enrollment size category. Texas Tech was recognized in the “large” institution category among schools with 10,000 or more students.

Two other universities within the Texas Tech University SystemAngelo State University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) – also were honored. Texas Tech and Baylor were the only two schools from the Big 12 Conference recognized on the 2025 list.

Texas Tech earned recognition in nine categories for the second straight year:

  • Job satisfaction and support
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Professional development
  • Mission and pride
  • Supervisor/Department chair effectiveness
  • Confidence in senior leadership
  • Faculty and staff well-being
  • Shared governance
  • Faculty experience

Now in its 17th year, the Great Colleges to Work For® survey is based on a two-part assessment process. The first part is the ModernThink Higher Education Insight Survey© administered to faculty, administrators, exempt professional and non-exempt staff as well as adjuncts at two-year colleges. The second part is the ModernThink Higher Education Institution Questionnaire©, which captures employment data and workplace policies and practices from each institution.

Recognition analysis for the Great Colleges to Work For® program is conducted by ModernThink, an organizational development firm with particular survey and “Best Place to Work” expertise.
