What’s New: Season One Recap

Wrapping up with a summary of season one.

Season one of “What’s New” has been an incredible journey that we were so happy to share with the audience of Texas Tech University.

We were able to highlight several interesting additions to Texas Tech’s campus that former and current Red Raiders can be proud of. This series was able to give donors and prospective donors an idea of where their money goes, as well as inform current students, faculty and staff of changes on campus.

Season one began with an introduction to “What’s New” and an overview of what the series would cover. Episode two gave a glimpse inside the newly renovated Raider Depot which is even more student friendly with a more robust IT support area. Episode three kicked off with information on Jones AT&T Stadium, which is still under construction with an estimated completion date around August 2024.

The following episode was the beginning of a three-episode run about on-campus dining options. In this episode we featured the centennial-themed dining hall 23 at Sneed. This place has seen complete demolition and renovation prior to the fall 2023 semester. Episode five introduced the newly reworked Burkhart Café at the Burkhart Center for Autism Education & Research. If you haven’t already tried it, you need to swing by and check out the buffalo chicken pizza. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Episode six brought us over to The Fresh Plate at Wall/Gates and The Commons, where we were able to introduce many new dining options to students and faculty.

After wrapping up some new food options, we were able to cover renovations to some classrooms and facilities.

Starting with Electrical & Computer Engineering classroom 101 and the Evelyn M. Knox Davies Lab 007, this classroom has lighting that portrays electrical current similar to human brain function. The state-of-the-art lab is complete with a robotics track and cameras. Our next stop was the newly renovated CoMC Esports Competition and Streaming Lab to highlight an area that’s sure to excite folks.

Texas Tech continues to keep its eyes on the horizon with a multitude of facility updates ensuring students and staff have every necessary resource at their fingertips.

In our next few episodes, we gave an overview of the SUB, pointed out some cool spots for Halloween and highlighted resources for Red Raiders dealing with stress. The following episode highlighted resources available to students and alumni at the University Career Center. Students were reminded in the next episode to keep Thanksgiving break holiday hours in mind.

In our most anticipated episode of season one we were able to give viewers insight into the 65th Carol of Lights® ceremony. We caught up with Blayne Beal, director of centennial coordination, to discuss the importance of the ceremony and just how much work it takes to pull off this spectacle.

As we conclude season one of “What’s New” with this recap, I want to thank you, the viewer, for making the premiere season special.
