Associate Director (acting), Lecturer Engineering

Karl Bandilla is an environmental engineer who researches the management of groundwater resources. He holds M.S. degrees in civil and environmental engineering from the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany) and the State University of New York at Buffalo (United States).

Dr. Arturo Camacho

Dr. Arturo Camacho

Lecturer, Computer Science

Dr. Arturo Camacho has been researching and delivering courses for more than 15 years. His training is in computer science, informatics, computer engineering, and music. Currently an associate professor at the University of Costa Rica, Camacho has been a lecturer at Texas Tech-CR since 2023.

Professor Ricardo Esquivel

Professor Ricardo Esquivel

Adjunct Faculty, Industrial Engineering

Professor Ricardo Esquivel worked full-time in industry before beginning a teaching career. He now teaches manufacturing engineering classes at Texas Tech. He is also a full-time faculty member at the Tecnológico de Costa Rica, where he collaborated with industry representatives to help develop that institution's master's degree in medical device manufacturing.

Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez

Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez

Lecturer and Program Coordinator, Industrial Engineering

Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez has master's degrees in engineering and applied mathematics from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, where he specialized in operations research, stochastic models, and decision processes. After 25 years as a faculty member at the University of Arizona and the University of Cincinnati, he returned to Costa Rica to work as a university administrator and expert in academic research and innovation.

Dr. Hanzel Grillo

Dr. Hanzel Grillo

Adjunct Faculty, Industrial Engineering

Dr. Hanzel Grillo teaches in Texas Tech's Industrial Engineering program as well as in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Costa Rica. He teaches manufacturing systems control, facilities planning, and fundamentals of systems. Before earning a Ph.D. at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, he worked as a systems engineer within global supply chain operations for both Walmart and Procter and Gamble.

Dr. Marcelo Jenkins

Dr. Marcelo Jenkins

Adjunct Faculty, Computer Science

Dr. Marcelo Jenkins has more than 100 publications and extensive consultancy experience in his specialty of software engineering and quality assurance. He has also served as Costa Rica's Minister of Science and Technology. Now a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Costa Rica, he also teaches computing at Texas Tech on a part-time basis.

Dr. Alexandra Martinez

Dr. Alexandra Martinez

Adjunct Faculty, Computer Science

Dr. Alexandra Martinez has more than 60 publications and is active in organizing international conferences, peer-reviewing papers for publication, and participating in professional organizations throughout the Americas. In addition to her research, she is engaged in her own entrepreneurial ventures. She teaches Texas Tech computing courses on a part-time basis and is also a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Costa Rica.

Dr. Tim Matis

Dr. Tim Matis

Industrial Engineering

Dr. Tim Matis earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at Texas A&M University and is a specialist in operations research, computational statistics, and organizational resilience. A Texas Tech professor since 2005, he is also the founder of a software startup company. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas, and he speaks fluent Spanish.

Dr. Richard Olawoyin

Adjunct Faculty, Industrial Engineering

Dr. Richard Olawoyin is a specialist in health and safety issues relevant to the energy sector. He is active in various professional associations and as a consultant, and he teaches part-time at Texas Tech. He earned a Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University, and his full-time position is as Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Dr. Juan Carlos Rojas

Lecturer, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Program Coordinator

Dr. Juan Carlos Rojas has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Northeastern University and a master's degree in engineering management from Stanford University. He has over 20 years of professional experience working in high-tech engineering companies in Boston, Silicon Valley, and Costa Rica. His areas of expertise include digital signal processing, real-time embedded computing, and artificial intelligence.
