Texas Tech Pom Squad Wins 2026 World Championships

The squad is representing the United States as the U.S. National Pom Team.

Texas Tech University’s Spirit Program is having quite a month.

Representing the United States as the U.S. National Pom Team, the Texas Tech Pom Squad claimed gold Friday (April 24) at the 2026 International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championships in Orlando, Florida.

The competition featured more than 50 countries, and thousands of athletes, going head-to-head for the ultimate bragging rights in various cheer and dance categories.

“It’s such a cool feeling to know that you’re representing Texas Tech on an international stage as the U.S. national team,” said Texas Tech Pom Coach Erin Alvarado. “We always tell our students, you’re representing a much bigger community than you’ll ever understand, and that’s even more magnified when you’re on an international stage. People are probably now Texas Tech fans who didn’t even know about Texas Tech prior to this competition.”

The win further cements a legacy of success. The Texas Tech Pom Squad was named the ICU Jazz World Champions in 2022 and has won six National Dance Alliance national championships in its program history.

It also comes exactly two weeks after Texas Tech’s Cheer Squads won not one, but two, national championships, on April 10 at the National Cheerleaders Association’s (NCA) College Nationals.

The large co-ed squad’s first-place finish in their division marked the second straight year Texas Tech has won the NCA Advanced Large Coed Division 1A. Texas Tech scored 94.225 to top the University of Louisville (93.775) and Oklahoma State University (93.5042).

The small co-ed squad also finished in first place in the NCA Advanced Small Coed Division 1A – for the third consecutive year. Texas Tech’s 93.3167 bested Kennesaw State University (91.9875) and Brigham Young University (89.6333).
