Texas Tech Rises in WSJ Rankings, Solidifying Position Among Top Universities

The university remains one of the top public schools in the U.S. according to the latest Wall Street Journal-College Pulse ratings.

In the latest Wall Street Journal-College Pulse Best Colleges in the U.S. rankings, released Sept. 30, Texas Tech University continues its upward trajectory, strengthening its place among the nation’s top universities.

Texas Tech’s latest ranking of No. 225 overall makes the university the No. 4-ranked public school in the state of Texas (out of 21 schools ranked) and the No. 7 overall in the state (out of 32 schools). The list includes only 584 institutions.

Texas Tech also is ranked No. 5 among Big 12 Conference schools and No. 3 among its public-school peers in the Big 12.

This ranking comes on the heels of increases in several highly respected rankings throughout 2025, including U.S. News & World Report, Forbes and Niche

“Rising in the national rankings reflects the quality of a Texas Tech education,” said President Lawrence Schovanec. “Each improvement is a direct result of the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to ensuring the success of everyone on our campus.”
