Texas Tech Improves Standing in World Rankings

The 2025 QS World University Rankings recognize Texas Tech as one of the premier global universities.

For the second straight year, the status of Texas Tech University as a leading institution of higher learning has grown, according to one of the world’s most-consulted university rankings.

The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings, released in early June by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, ranks Texas Tech No. 781-790 in the world. Last year, Texas Tech ranked in the 801-850 range.

“We are encouraged to see Texas Tech’s enhanced position in the latest world rankings, reflecting our commitment to academic excellence and innovation,” said Texas Tech Provost and Senior Vice President Ron Hendrick. “This recognition validates the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff and students in advancing our university's mission. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence across all aspects of higher education, preparing our graduates to thrive in an increasingly competitive global landscape.”

Last year, QS implemented the largest methodological enhancements since its inception, introducing three new metrics: sustainability, employment outcomes and internal research network. The weights of some existing indicators also were adjusted, namely academic reputation, employer reputation and faculty-student ratio.

This year’s QS World University Rankings is the largest ever, featuring more than 1,500 universities evaluated across 105 higher education systems.
