Agricultural Communications

Agricultural Communications students tell the story of agriculture and serve as effective advocates within the industry.

Through this major, you'll build a versatile skill set spanning writing, public speaking, visual storytelling, photography, and emerging technology, preparing you for a wide range of careers in agricultural media, marketing, and beyond.

The program combines 40 hours of core coursework with nine hours of electives in areas like electronic media, print media, or public relations and marketing, plus a foundational news writing course.

You'll also complete a hands-on internship, building real-world experience and professional connections before you graduate.

Degree & Course Details

ACOM 2303 - Digital Imaging in Agriculture

Basics of composition, techniques, and lighting involved in photographing agricultural images. Students will learn about photographing agricultural subjects, people, and landscapes.

ACOM 3300 - Communicating Agriculture to the Public

Introduction to public relations writing and strategy in agricultural contexts. Students will develop writing skills, analyze agricultural issues in media, and apply course concepts through community-engaged learning. 

ACOM 3305 - Layout and Design in Agricultural Sciences

Examination of design principles and desktop publishing in the agricultural industry.

ACOM 4410 - Development of Agricultural Publications

Students integrate various skills including writing, editing, advertising sales, photography, and layout in producing agricultural publications. Emphasis upon computer software applications in agricultural publishing.
