Earlier this summer, all state agencies and institutions of higher education were
directed to reduce their nonformula Legislative Appropriations Requests by 3% for
the 2028-29 biennium. For Texas Tech University, this is approximately $2.8M. While
this directive is an important step in the budget development process, it applies
only to a portion of the university's legislative funding request and does not represent
a 3% reduction to the university's overall budget. It is also only the beginning of
the legislative process, and there is still significant work ahead before funding
decisions are finalized.
Texas Tech has long benefited from strong support from the State of Texas, and we
remain well positioned to build on the progress weve made. Our focus remains on advancing
our mission of teaching, research and service while continuing to provide exceptional
opportunities for our students and support for our faculty and staff.
As we prepare to welcome the largest first-time-in-college class in our history, we
are reminded that this momentum is the result of your dedication and commitment.
We are pleased to move forward with the previously announced 3% merit pool, effective
Sept. 1, and we want to thank you for the important contributions you make to our
university each day. We will continue to keep you informed as the legislative process
moves forward, and we appreciate your continued focus on providing an outstanding
experience for our students as we begin another academic year.
