We are writing to share that beginning in October 2027, the university will add a two-day fall break to the academic calendar.
This initiative was originally advanced by the Student Government Association and reflects sustained student interest in creating a structured pause during the fall semester. Over time, the proposal has been evaluated in coordination with Faculty Senate, Academic Council and academic leadership to ensure that any adjustment maintains instructional integrity, accreditation requirements and compliance with state-mandated contact hours.
The two-day break will be incorporated into the academic calendar framework without reducing required instructional time. Achieving this balance required careful review of semester structure, start and end dates and academic deadlines. We are grateful to the student and faculty leaders who worked diligently to make this possible.
The full 2027–2028 academic calendar will be developed and shared through the universitys standard calendar review and publication process.
We appreciate the thoughtful engagement of all who contributed to this effort.
