Dear Red Raiders,
It is with pride and gratitude that I announce an amazing achievement that speaks to the caring and goodhearted nature of the Texas Tech University family.
One of the most important components of our Centennial celebration was our commitment to volunteerism and service. We set an ambitious goal of one million hours of community service, and the Red Raider family rose to this challenge to better our communities, this state and the nation.
In total, more than 1.1 million volunteer and service hours were logged by nearly 51,000 faculty, staff, students and alumni around the United States.
Texas Tech was born out of a need to serve West Texas and this community. Each hour volunteered represents a promise to that purpose. I am confident this spirit of service will carry forward into our second century.
I offer my deepest appreciation to each of you who contributed your time and energy to reach this goal. Thank you for all you do.
