Lyle Talking: An Evening of Conversation with Lyle Lovett

Thursday, October 12, 2017 - 7:00 p.m.

In a unique program, singer, songwriter, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett will be in conversation with Paul Allen Hunton, General Manager of Texas Tech Public Media, to offer insights about his creative process and stories from a recording and performing life spanning thirty years. Four-time Grammy winner, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that includes 14 memorable albums.

The Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. He has a specific gift for storytelling and for offering us some of the most unforgettable song lyrics: “If I Had a Boat,” “L.A. County,” and “That's Right (You're Not From Texas)” to name a few. This program of conversation will offer his fans and followers an intimate look at one of America's musical treasures.

“Lyle Lovett can make any song sound like a small tragedy. His pained, honeyed voice, with its bluesy turns and its countryish ache, fills every line with sincerity; his unhurried, deadpan delivery gives every line the air of an intimate confession.” –New York Times
