RE: FERPA & Writing consultants

Thanks to all who have responded both on and off the list. You've given me several options to consider in this matter, and added some good reasons and viable strategies for keeping student test status a non-issue for WC consultants. 

Since one helpful strategy has been to encourage (or require in some cases) students to sit down, plan  and then write practice exam essays--and please proofread!--the need to pull out failed tests is not that pressing. Esp. since some students took the exam a year or more ago, the essay may not even represent their writing strategies or abilities at present.

Thanks as well for suggestions about getting rid of such mere writing hoops. That's a longer term project, I fear... (but worth trying!).
