Re: Clone that professor!

In our high school setting, some teachers require the students to visit the
writing center, but most of our business comes from students who initiate
the visit themselves. Our students have had a math clinic available to them
for years, and some of that attitude spills over. Our principal always
talks about our clinic, and our community organizations are very interested
in funding things that we need. Our PTSO just gave us 500 dollars toward a
computer. So, part of our popularity comes from generalizing and part from
publicity.

Some of our best publicity comes from the students themselves. Those who
have had a hard time getting started or who have hit the black wall of
despair often tell their chums about us.

But we are not where I would like us to be. Too often we sit waiting to
offer our students our help, only to find the minutes ticking by. I think
that one reason that computers are so interesting to our teachers is that
the blinking lights and humming towers are so attractive to kids.
