Re: diagramming sentences
In my English Grammar 791/891 course, I use Mark Lester's Grammar in the
Classroom, bits of Martha Kolln's Rhetorical Grammar, Constance Weaver's
Teaching Grammar in Context, and Joe William's Style. I also create a
formal class packet on usage issues, and questions of language and power
(ESL, Ebonics, Gender, etc). Lester does contrast diagramming with other
visual representations, such as tree structures, so we do examine the
usefulness and limitations of Reed-Kellog.
