Arguing for a Peer Tutor Course
Dear friends,
I'm proposing a course that will train undergraduates to work in our WC
and/or introduce them to conferencing strategies for teaching writing
one-on-one. I'm encountering more resistance than I expected.
As part of my strategy to get the course accepted and supported by members
of the English department, I'd like to present the curriculum committee with
a massive, overwhelming list of colleges and universities that have
established for-credit courses in peer tutoring or some other course that
specifically teaches conferencing techniques.
This part of my argument will be simple: they are doing it, why can't we?
And if we don't do it, won't we have a second-rate Writing Center?
Please help by letting me know if your institution offers a for-credit
course. Please also include your http address if the course is listed in an
on-line catalog or web page.
Thanks, and wish me luck!
