Re: WE WANT INFORMATION!
Jeff,
Something to consider about "formal" WAC programs: We are a regional
school as well (17000 or so). Our administrators might say that we have a
WAC program, but in my mind we don't. While we have courses that are
supposed to include writing WAC, there is little or no consistency to that.
A big part of the reason, I think, is that there is no WAC director to help
assure that writing is occuring in other courses/departments. The writing
center is also just trying to get started (myself as director) and
could/should play a role in helpinig with WAC. We get invites/inquiries
from instructors in other departments but haven't the mission or the
staffing to respond in any consistent, WAC, way. So--"formal" to me would
have to include responsibility for seeing that WAC happens rather than
simply having certain courses be designated as "writing" courses in the
disciplines.
