Mission Statements

Hello, all--

I am fairly new to this list--have been lurking for awhile, but this is my
first post.

I'd like to pose some questions about writing center/lab mission
statements.  To give you some context...  My lab is at Miami (of Ohio)'s
Middletown branch, which is primarily a two-year college.  Any feedback
about your labs' mission statements, whether specific to your university
situation or not, would be appreciated.

* Do your labs have them?  Why or why not?
* What do they say?  How long are they?  Are they part of and/or based on
some other university document?
* Who wrote them?  When?  
* What do you feel that their purposes or functions are within the lab?
Within the larger university community?

Any reading suggestions pertaining to mission statements would also be
appreciated.
