Due to the expected increase in student numbers the First-Year English
Program is now recruiting two to three instructors for January 1999

GENERAL BACKGROUND TO FIRST-YEAR ENGLISH PROGRAM:
Bilkent University, with a student population of over 10,000, is a leading
English-medium university in Turkey (Ankara).  It has over 30 different
departments, organized around 7 Faculties, 7 Graduate Institutions and 2
Vocational Schools.

The First-Year English Program provides courses to students in faculties as
diverse as Engineering, Fine Arts, Literature, and Science. Its mission is
to provide the necessary language and academic skills needed by students to
ensure successful completion of their academic studies. 

The First-Year English Program is seeking a number of teachers who have
university-level teaching experience. In addition, the successful
applicants should be interested in materials and course development and
have a strong humanities background. Duties include teaching up to 15
contact hours per week, providing up to 5 hours per week of tutorials in
the reading/writing center and being actively involved in first-year course
and test design.

REQUIREMENTS:
Successful candidates should have most if not all of the following:
**MA
**At least 2 years university teaching experience
**Experience/knowledge of ESL/EFL
**Experience in curriculum development and materials design, including
testing. **Experience and interest in setting up and developing new courses
are a distinct advantage. 

In addition to the above academic qualifications and experience, applicants
should have highly developed interpersonal skills, proven ability to work
without close supervision, well developed time management skills, and an
interest in working on new projects as part of a team. 

BENEFITS:
Contracts will be for 18 months years (mutually renewable) and include
return airfare, beginning and end of contract to home base, and free
furnished accommodation (with subsidized utility charges).  Salaries are in
the range of $1,000 - $1,200 (net) per month payable in Turkish Lira,
