RE: Size and Growth

How do you staff that many hours with only ten peer tutors? Do you have
quite a few faculty tutors? When I read your message it kind of blew me
away, and I admit, I feel very inadequate because I have 13 peer tutors
and some faculty volunteers and out hours are from 9-5 M, W, Th, F and
9-6:30 on Tu. I have often thought about trying to stay open at other
times but have never figured out how to staff more hours. I would love
to learn from you and others who have solved the problem of extended
hours with few tutors. Sharon Hatton-Montoya

We are almost 1400 students and we have extensive hours--it used to be
many
fewer, but we want to be available. We staff with students (about 10
peers)
and
faculty (anywhere from 3-7). Faculty get an hourly rate. We are open
9am-12midnight Monday-Thursday; 9am-4pm Friday; closed Saturday;
1pm-12midnight
Sunday. Our evening campuses are not in proximity to our main campus (we
have
satellites throughout the state), and we are preparing to undertake an
on-line
access for those students who are at those Satellite campuses--we may
have to
hire a peer tutor for Saturdays to answer an online request.

Cheers and good luck!
