Re: Appointments and metaphors

Well, Nick, (and Mark Shadle, you should appreciate this):
We have the "WAffle House" Philosophy of service here at UWG. If we can't
get to 'em, we holler, "Hey, welcome to the Writin' Center; have a seat,
we'll be wit'cha in a second."

THen, the tutor with the least teeth goes by and offers coffee. Then we
put down a "menu," our sheet that asks what he/she "wants" that day. WE
try to make sure the sheet is greasy and has coffee stains.

We do a lot of standing around, and the desk person is always yelling what
each writer needs to work on to the other tutors. (Fragments on two,
Thesis on one, etc.) The tutors complain a lot that their shift is too
long and that student give them a hard time when told we can't proofread.

We ask that tables for two or more be reserved, and we have lots of orange
glass and music going.

Our theme song, written especially for us, is "The Writin' Center blues."
A history prof wrote it, inspired by our quick and friendly and exhaustive
service.

You might think I am kidding, but just ask my tutors.

Ok, so I am not that imaginative on Monday am's.

Take care, all.

Sonja
