RE: released time for administrators

The situation at the University of Wyoming (10,000 students):

	1. what is your rank? do you hold a staff/faculty/administrative
> appointment?
>
I am a director at will. It's an administrative appointment, I guess. I
designed the position to fit my needs, so it's a 75% job. It's also for 9
months. That is, it's both 75% (30 hours per week) and 9 months.

> administer your center?

No teaching load, unless I want to. Sometimes I volunteer to teach a
one-credit hour first year orientation course. Other times (like this
semester), I teach a 3-credit hour honors course in return for some funds to
hire undergraduate interns.

> 3. what size is your institution; how many people staff your center and

10,000 students. We have about 1000 conferences a semester. We
also do about 40 outreach programs a semester (classroom presentations and
workshops). We have a staff of 8 (academic professional lecturers from the
English Department) and 3 undergraduate student interns.

I coordinate WAC on campus: all students are required to take two
writing-intensive courses beyond the first year writing course, and I
coordinate that program. I sit on the general education committee.
I also am centrally involved (unofficial assistant director) with the Center
for Teaching Excellence.

You definitely need to rewrite your job description to become at least 50%!

Advice: don't use the phrase "release time" to describe what you do.
