Re: Grad. Programs in Composition
Merry, if you're interested in going south, Texas Tech has a unique PhD in
Technical Communications and Rhetoric. It's tech com with a rhetorical
bent, and we're also home to Lady Fall Brown's wonderful writing center and
Online Writing Center. I've just started here, but not only am I impressed
with the TCR graduate program and graduate students, but I'm also very
impressed with the number of TCR folks, both graduate students and faculty,
who either do part-time consulting, work in the field while getting a
degree, or have considerable options as to whether to go into corporate
work or academic work.
And while Lubbock doesn't have the Austin Lounge Lizards (one of my
personal favs; saw 'em first in Ann Arbor, and followed 'em to Austin!) or
"exciting" food, we DO have a very cool brew pub (and a regular Friday
gathering of TCR/RC graduate students), the Buddy Holly Festival, and good
weather and good folks. When we came looking for housing here, I lost my
purse/backpack/diaper bag, and someone immediately turned it into the
Lubbock police, very concerned that it had perishables and baby stuff in
it. It was intact and had a nice note with it.
