Re: Wiring the Writing Center is now available

Michael, I know Daedalus has a small press which recently published an
edited collection (Language Learning Online) in several formats: a book,
which sold for between $20-30; a .pdf version which sold for about half the
book price and required a password to get into but was searchable, which is
great for research (does Faigley appear in any of these articles? Is the
concept of "power" in any of the chapters in this book? and so forth); and
a .pdf version (I think) that was text only and couldn't be printed or
saved or copied which people could view for free.

I personally like the choice: I can check out the book before buying it, I
can buy a cheaper, searchable version if I think it's going to be important
to my research, or I can buy a book that I can sit and read in the bathtub,
etc. :-) I might actually buy both the book AND online version if the
price wasn't too high, and I really thought I'd use it.

You might chat with someone at Labyrinth Publications to find out more
about how this has worked out, and what kind of response they're getting.
Susan Meigs (susan@daedalus.com) might be able to help.
