Re: the tutee's privacy

The University of Miami's writing center sends notes to instructors using
this rationale: Failure to do so appears to call the honor code pledge into
question; it states that the student has neither given nor received
unauthorized (imagine italics on that word) help on the paper. By notifying
the instructor and by keeping permanent records that duplicate the information
about the tutoring session, we can avoid honor code problems.

Also, students often claim that they had writing center help on a paper--
sometimes we have to prove they did not. We are pleased to have records
on both sides of the issue.
