RE: the tutee's privacy

You have all raised many good points on this issue. At our institution, we
do send reports to professors on each session, but the student has the right
to prevent those reports from being sent if she so desires. I also read
each report before it is sent, returnig to the tutors those reports that use
inappropriate language or a judgemental tone. I continue to send reports
for many of the reasons that have already been stated; I also struggle with
it regularly for many of the reasons already stated. How's that for
fence-sitting? Like many issues in Writing Center work, this is not a
clear-cut one, at least not for me.

There is an excellent article in the Spring/Summer '98 issue of the Writing
Center Journal on this subject titled, "In Defense of Conference Summaries:
Widening the Reach of Writing Center Work." It discusses both sides of the
issue, referencing other articles by our colleagues on this list. It helped
me to look once again at the complexities of this issue, even as we are
doing now on this list.
