Sarah,

I have 50% release time for directing the Center, 25% release time for
research and teach for the remaining 25%.  The fellow who directed the
Center before me had only 25% release, and the Center was definitely in
limbo--he simply didn't have the time to properly train the staff and
attend to developing the Center's services and the university community's
awareness of the services.

If your administration values the role the writing center does and can play
in recruitment and retention, they should think again about cutting back on
the time you have to devote to your role as director.
