Like Judy, I am happy about the fact that here at our Writing Center,
students are free to come in and use the facilities, 22 Powermacs and a
couple of PCs, most with access to a vast array of programs and Internet,
so they often write papers at their leisure, etc. Also, they see that
graduate students are in here working on dissertations, and there is just
lots of WRITING going on, which I find very exciting. Our facility can do
basically anything that any of the other fully equipped computer labs on
campus can do, and we are much easier to get into. Writing classes often
meet here, and we consultants are kept busy with walk-ins and appointments
with people who say they want to improve their writing. The most
interesting part is the presence of students from all disciplines and, in
fact, many different parts of the world.
