word length

I've used word length constraints in both ways.  In technical/professional
writing, I have imposed severe length limits, for the purpose of
encouraging conciseness.  In other classes, I have imposed a word minimum,
for the purpose of encouraging development. But when I do that, I also
indicate the kinds of information that development should provide,
insisting that every sentence must add information or insight.
