Job Opening
Hello.
I have been reading posts but not participating and have learned a great
deal. I want to let everyone know that a position has opened in the
Humanities Department at Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), a four year
college and part of the State's college system.
The position requires a PhD. It is full-time, tenured track, and we will
probably hire at the Assistant Professor level. Knowledge of writing
pedagogy is a plus.
MMA is a paramilitary school. The students are in the Regiment of Cadets.
They wear uniforms. Majors at MMA are Marine Engineering, Marine
Transportation, Facilities Engineering, and Marine Safety and Environmental
Protection.
The official job description (this isn't it) includes this statement:
"must be able to thrive in a paramilitary/technical environment." The
curriculum includes the bare necessities in terms of literature: an intro
course, a survey of American Lit, and upperclass electives. We also have a
communications course. Two years ago, the Dean decided (finally) to put
together a "Learning Resource Center" where faculty tutor students in
Writing and Math. The Center exists only at night and is in no way a
success.
The school is in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts which is on the mainland side
of the Cape Cod Canal. We area small school: about 800 students and 55
faculty.
I am hoping that women will apply for this position. We have only five
women faculty, and this position is replacing one of those five.
Send letter, CV, and any material you deem pertinent to:

Unfortunately, the application deadline is May 15th. Send your
applications by Fed Ex!!!!!
Please do not mention my name in the letter. My department wants no
preferential treatment in the job search, and I am only one of several on
the search committee. You can correspond with me electronically, or call
me in my office: (508) 830-5000, ext. 2261.
Thanks everyone.
