Re: A search engine for the archives
I completely agree with everyone who has posted so far that the archives
should be searchable and that people who post to listservs have to realize
that their postings have entered the public domain. However, I also have
some sympathy for those who would not like to have some of the things
they've said being easily accessible to the public. Consider how often on
this list someone has posted a gripe about faculty members, administrators,
and so forth--and how useful and productive the discussions have been which
followed. It's not hard to imagine some of those postings costing someone
their tenure or their promotion or an otherwise likely budget increase.
Would it be possible to put in place some mechanism whereby a list member
could request to have certain postings deleted from the archive?
I'm having a moment of deja vu, by the way--haven't we had this discussion
before?
