Re: Writing Centers as Practicum Sites (fwd)

Steve,
I went through UHCL's program with Dagmar and feel this program was key to
attaining my career goals. Just as Dagmar described, taking Chloe
Diepenbrocks's tutor training class and comp/rhet classes and tutoring in the
University Writing Center led to adjunct work, which led to an administrative
appointment for a full-time writing instructor position and a spot in the
final rounds in a selection process for the same full-time position <knock on
wood>. I think it is important to note that in addition to developing
collaborative opportunities in the WC and at Lee College, Chloe also
challenges all of her students to pursue publication and conference
presentation opportunities which are key to academic employment. Without this
program, attaining my goals would have been extremely hard. Dagmar and I have
former classmates all over the country who are also working in academia as a
result of this program, which might be a model from which you can learn. Good
luck,
