Grow's Learning Model
Rob--
I read your response to Carl regarding kairos and am curious to learn more
about Grow's learning model. Would you please provide source info. and/or
a copy of your SWCA paper?
I'm just completing my first year here at Clarion, and I have just "cleaned
house" and hired a new staff for next year--rather than keeping the
resisters who have spent the year complaining that it "didn't used to be
this way." So I'm already thinking ahead to the Fall training schedule and
Grow seems like material I'd like to investigate as I plan. I've just had a
new 3cr course approved for Spring 1999 that teaches comp. theory, writing
center philosophy, and one-on-one writing methods. I've found that when I
have staff members who have taken a course scuh as this, the level of
commitment to writing centers, composition, professionalism, and student
need just sky-rockets. The only thing I miss about the last institution I
was at is my exemplary undergraduate staff. They understood the educational
value of a writing center service to student writers as well as the
educational value to themselves in terms of what they were learning as they
worked in the center.
