Re: accreditation/assessment/certification(?)

People have been making such important points in these posts about
accreditation/assessment. I am in doubts, too, about "failing" an
accreditation visit and can see how that could be a double-edged sword.
What has worked so well for us -- and I know for others -- is the CRLA
accreditation of our Tutor Training Program --this avoids all the
hassles of individual facilities, salaries, titles, etc. -- but it
allows us to tout the "accreditation" for tutor recruitment, etc. (i.e.
raise the "jealousy" factor) -- and it's so painless a process, really.
All of us who have programs in place for training tutors simply document
what we do, which is going to be sound and valuable and accountable
anyway, or we wouldn't be doing it. The last address I had for CRLA
tutor certification program was c/o Dr. Karan Hancock, 8102 Harvest
Circle, Anchorage, AK 99502 (our certification was for 5 years, 4 years
ago)
Phone (907)349-7128. Someone else on the list probably has more an
update.
