Thank you for your quick responses!  WCENTER is truly a supportive family.

In reference to your request, Will, Eastern's English department, which at
present consists of two full-time and about 4 part-time faculty members, is
not directly involved in the activities of the Writing Center.

Eastern's Writing Center is, however, housed within the Center for
Counseling and Academic Support (CCAS).  At 6 members, the CCAS staff is
actually larger than the English department's: we have a
director/psychologist, a psychologist, a coordinator of tutorial services,
an Act101 (a PA-sponsored developmental ed. support program) counselor, a
full-time secretary, and a writing specialist.  

As part of CCAS rather than the Eng. dep't, I feared when I stepped into my
position that I'd be marginalized by the academic departments as someone
whose work involves only remedial or "fix-it" services (I hear ya, Steve
North!) and, while my fears came true to some extent, there has been some
interest by the Eng. dep't to involve me in the teaching of courses other
than ENG091, our pre-FY course, and ENG250-251, the new writing assistant
training course.

Other than that, Will, I think the Eng. faculty members support my work in
that 
they "refer" students to see me (hmmm...could this be the "remedial" thing
again?) and recommend that students attend my workshops.  Is this
relationship similar to yours at U. of Southern Colorado?
