Centralizing our WC
I apologize up front for any of you who might have received this from
another list, but I need you help ASAP.
Our school is considering moving our labs to a new "centralized"
location. This will not only be a physical move, but it appears it
will be a philosophical move, as well.
Currently we work in about 1100 sq. ft. of space in the Humanities
division under the direction of the chair of that division. We
have a full-time WC director, a full-time assistant director, two
part-time assistant directors, and three student assistants. We
operate as a tutorial and CAI program all in one room.
The suggestion is to move our WC, the Developmental Reading Lab,
the developmental Math Lab, and the Foreign Language Lab to a central
location on campus where we will share computers and probably staff.
This area will also house the counseling/testing offices, career
center, GED offices, three multi-media classrooms and a multi-media
studio for creating film/power point presentations.
Students using this "super center" will be both developmental and
regular students. They will be able to receive tutorial assistance,
write papers, complete their on-line classes and do research through
the internet and state multi-use computer programs.
Now, the question is...what research has already been completed
relating to how sucessful these combined lab forces work? What
should we be watching for or avoiding? Does anyone on this list have
any information for me that might help in working towards this
project???
Thanks,
