Paying for tutors

Hi,
I’m the coordinator of a relatively new writing center at a community
college. We use mostly peer tutors, with some community members paid on
an hourly basis. The college has funded us for the first year, but is
now looking for alternatives. I would appreciate hearing about how
others fund their centers, especially if you have experience with
various grants that pay for tutors. We have grants for student support,
vocational, and certain science majors, but because we’re a drop-in
center (with consequent tutor idle time), much of the payroll comes from
the college’s general fund.
Thanks for any good ideas or other sources of information.
