Daedalus online (was laptop question)

Katie, Carrie, and anyone else who's interested:

At NCTE I was able to bring an early Internet version of InterChange that
Daedalus allowed folks to preview at the ACE booth. While the users will
be able to use any platform, I believe, the software itself needs to be
installed on either mac or windows, just like Netscape or Eudora, depending
on the platform the server uses. It promises to be a nifty program,
IMHO....easy to use like the LAN-based InterChange, but with some other
cool features, such as the ability for everyone to be viewing a single
document and refer to specific lines/segments, and some wonderful ways to
sort the conversation once it's finished: by school, by class, by
individual (m/f, level, etc.) or by length of message, frequency of
participation, etc. Great for those of us doing research; I had to do much
of this on my own when I did my diss! :-) Because all users can be
viewing/referring to a single document, it seems like a good tool for peer
revision/OWL-type work, in addition to the other InterChange uses already
in place, such as brainstorming, class discussion, etc.

I believe it's scheduled to be beta-tested by spring. For more info on
this (I really only got to see the program once before NCTE, and I
previewed what I knew for folks there), contact Susan Meigs at
susan@daedalus.com.
