laptops and a WC
Hi, everyone. I wrote this more than a week ago and sent it to another
listserv I joined at the same time I joined this one. I have been quite
impressed by this listserv and finally realized I had not sent this to
you. It fits in with the current laptop discussion. I can't wait to
hear your ideas and questions! THANKS!!!
First, I would like to introduce myself to the participants of this
listserv. My name is Kate Agena and I am a second semester Junior at
Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. I am majoring in the Humanities
with a concentration in English, but I have special interest in
composition theory and all aspects of writing center administration.
I am currently working on a proposal for a writing center here at
Waldorf. It is a small (less than 600 students), private school and has
some unique things to offer. For instance, each student is given a new
IBM Thinkpad as part of the tuition package to use for the year and each
dorm room is equipped with an Internet hook-up. (I am writing this from
my room right now.) This opens up a lot of possibilities for using the
net and e-mail services as part of the writing center's functions. I'm
sure this seems like a dream to many of you. I recently visited a
writing center at a major state university that was still trying to work
on two very obsolete Macintosh desktops.
My request to each of you, is that you help me figure out the best plan
for this new writing center. Spare no (well, little) cost and work with
the assumption that if it's the best, we can get it.
Thank you in advance for your time and thoughts. If you would like to
e-mail me directly, the address is below.
