in honor of Byron's birthday

Some years ago, Byron Stay and Carl Glover declared me the peanut butter
ball cookie queen of the list and I've worn the crown proudly even though
I know it was just brass compared to the gold one Stephen Newmann
received for his famous w.c. beanpot. In honor of Byron's b.day yesterday
and in recognition of Lady Falls breaking the recipe barrier with that hot
tortilla soup last month, I offer free to the group this much coveted and
secret ancient family recipe for

Rolo Cookies

2.5 c. flour
3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. margarine or butter, softened
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
48 Rolos (9 oz bag)
sugar in a bowl

Heat oven to 375. Combine flour, cocoa, and baking soda in bowl and
blend.
In large bowl, beat 1 c. sugar, brown sugar, margarine/butter
until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs; beat well. Add flour
mixture; blend well. For each cookie, shape about 1 tbls. of dought
around 1 carmel candy. Cover it completely or the carmel will leak out
during baking. Roll rounded dough ball in sugar and place on
un-greased cookie sheet (I usually put 12 to a sheet).
Bake at 375 7-10 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Yummmmmmmm eat. I
always make a double batch btw.

*****But the peanut butter ball recipe? Nope, sorry. You'll have to
marry into the family to get that one.
