silence in writing center consultations

Elisabeth,

You might be able to find research/statistics/bibliographical information
about silence in educational journals under the name "wait time," which is a
term used to define the amount of time an instructor waits in silence before
a student answers a question or before the instructor speaks again--either
to reclarify a question or to redirect the question to another student.
I've heard the term "wait time" only in reference to *classroom* pedagogy,
but it's definitely applicable to WCs!!!

Good luck on your paper!
:) Deb
