Statistical Studies

In order to study usage in our writing center, we presently maintain a
daily log notebook which each student must sign upon entering and exiting
our lab or consulting area.  Last year we saw about 12,000 students but
anticipate seeing nearly twice that number this year.  To alleviate this
paperwork burden in the future, I am investigating the purchase of a
identification card scanner.

I am interested in learning about software or hardware which might be
useful and would appreciate suggestions from those on the list who use card
scanners in their centers.
