katie, I went to u of montana and studied with richard hugo in the mid-seventies. You are right to try and see writing and writing instruction as less by comp vs cw and more a matter of writing...and your citation of Wendy Bishop also makes sense--her books are in my other office but I think her pedagogy makes me better in both comp and cw worlds...will
