NWCA Conference Writing Center: One more time before fall!
Hi all!
As you may recall back in February we were batting around the idea of
setting up conference writing centers at the various conferences we
all attend. Since I'm in Utah, I volunteered to organize a
conference WC for the upcoming NWCA conference in Park City. (I
don't want to spam wcenter too much, so this message will be the
last I will send about this until September, when I will send one
more. Please check the bottom of this list to see if I have already
taken down your name. I will be putting up a mail list for the
interested parties soon.)
These centers
"...will provide feedback to presenters at
the NWCA conference; it will model writing center tutoring; and it
will be a place where people can discuss writing center issues."
We will achieve these objectives "...by staffing the writing center
with writing center personnel who will take shifts to give feedback to
presenters through their tried and tested experience as writing center
workers, to model writing center tutoring to observers who are not
presenting, and to discuss writing center issues with observers and
presenters. Since those at NWCA all work in writing centers, they are
familiar with the benefits of feedback for writers, how important it
is to see others 'in action,' and the rarity of having time to discuss
writing center issues face to face with our colleagues. The goal of
the conference writing center will be accomplished through the
devotion of the many participants" (my NWCA proposal).
When I trolled for interested parties a few months ago and then
again in June, the following expressed interest in participating in
the conference WC:
Carol P. Haviland
Bobbie Silk
Joan Mullin
Neal Lerner
Linda Coblentz
Carol Haviland (and students)
Carol McFrederick
Charlene Hirschi
Ellen Mohr
Gilda Kelsey
Marcy TRianosky
Pamela Childers
Sharon E. Strand
Denise Stephenson
Patricia N. McLaughlin
Clint Gardner
I will be taking on the responsibillity of scheduling folks in the CWC
etc. Penny Bird has informed me that Larry Giddings will be involved
as well.
Are there others who would like to take a turn in the center? Even if
you are only able to give a half hour, we'd love to have you! Reply
off-list...
Thanks,
--clint
