Re: Rx for Pharmacy writing
Sara, in addition to Neal and Eric, you might try checking with Joan
Mullin (Joan, are you there?) as I know she wrote something for their
College of Pharmacy for U. of Toledo. There's also a national
certification requirement for Pharmacy people which spells out, I
think, the communcation competencies they should be developing. If you
call over to Pharmacy on your campus, you'll find really receptive
people eager to talk about using writing in their classes. Several of
the people here at Purdue's College of Pharmacy actually called me to
ask if I'd look over their assignments, criteria for assessment, etc.,
and I've talked to grad students teaching Pharmacy classes about
responding to their students' papers. They are truly interested and
active, beyond the necessity to meet accreditation requirements. And
their assignments range broadly now that many are aware of various
types of writing. They do journals, have sequenced assignments, keep
portfolios, etc.
Let us know what you find out from Pharmacy folk on your campus.I've
found them to be great people to talk to, and their students come in
to our Writing Lab ready to talk and think about their writing!
