wc software info. request

Hello!

I apologize for this long posting. . . 

I am a high school English teacher and I am developing my school's new
writing center which will open this fall in the school's computer lab.
The school is using Title 1 money to start this center, and so  classes at
the "general" level, consisting of students with poor reading and writing
skills, will come to the lab as a class unit, or possibly half a class
unit, for help.  Yet the school is very interested in serving all of its
students, so I will also offer individual tutoring services during the
school day and before and after school.

Because I will have to help more than one student at a time when these
students visit the center as a class,  I am trying to find some good
writing and/or reading software titles that members of this list may have
used or tried so that I can try to "personalize" the help the students
receive when they come as a large group.  (The computers in the lab are PCs
with 16 mb ram, 32 bit file system and virtual memory).  Basic/remedial
writing and reading titles would be especially appreciated.  Since the
school has long-range hopes for this center and plans to upgrade its
computer lab soon, any titles would be appreciated even if they wouldn't
work with our current computers.
