Scott, here we have a 2nd semester sophomore/1st semester junior year
"portfolio assessment seminar," a 1 credit course (it lasts 4 weeks)
in which students review a number of artifacts from all of their gen
ed courses and determine where they are, what they're doing, etc.
Since writing has a significant place in all of our gen ed courses,
evaluating their writing progress is an important component. I'm not
sure that the entire set up would suit your needs, but there are
most likely some useful elements. Someone you could contact here
about it, the person who coordinates the experience (which by the way
is repeated during the senior year as a portion of the gen ed
capstone course) is Dr. Jerry Burns, burnsgt@rindge.fpc.edu. He's
been the point man on this for the last 4 years or so and can
probably be of some help. You've got quite a job ahead of you!
