Director of the University Writing Center 
and the Online Writing Center
(Job Description)

The Director of the University Writing Center supervises all the
activities of the University Writing Center.  These activities
include the following:

7 Training new tutors through seminars, staff meetings (the
writing center colloquia), guided practice, and regular
evaluation;
7 Overseeing the operation of the Online Writing Center;
7 Answering faculty questions concerning the operations of the
University Writing Center and the Online Writing Center;
7 Promoting the University Writing Center and the Online Writing
Center through posters, brochures, news releases, departmental
and university-wide memos, etc.;
7 Coordinating the activities of the University Writing Center
and the Online Writing Center with other agencies on campus such
as the P.A.S.S. Center, the Association for Students with
Learning Disabilities, etc.;
7 Scheduling the tutors and providing substitutes in their
absence;
7 Reporting at regular intervals to the Vice-Provost for Academic
Affairs on the function and current levels of use of the
University Writing Center and the Online Writing Center;
7 Making sure that supplies are available, such as student
folders, daily logs, teacher referrals, etc.;
7 Keeping tract of current research on writing centers, peer
tutoring, etc., and keeping the staff informed on these areas;
and
7 Encouraging staff members to become professionally active
through joining appropriate organizations and submitting papers
for conference presentation and for publication.

7 Being on time and on premise during scheduled working hours 
7 Dressing appropriately
7 Treating clients with respect and civility
7 Limiting personal telephone conversations both in number and
length since the telephone is used to conduct the business of the
University Writing Center
